What Is Electrolysis
Electrolysis is a safe method of permanent hair removal and is recognized by the FDA as the only method of permanent hair removal. It can permanently remove unwanted hair caused by heredity, metabolic factors, or hormonal conditions such as PCOS and other hormonal imbalances.
During treatment, a very fine probe is inserted into the natural opening of the hair follicle, and a small amount of electrical current is applied to destroy the hair growth cells responsible for future growth.
Why Choose Electrolysis Over Laser
Laser hair removal works by targeting pigment in the hair follicle, which is why it is often most effective when there is strong contrast between the skin and the hair. It may be less effective on hair that is very light, sparse, gray, red, or blonde.
If you are not a good candidate for laser hair removal, or if you have had limited results with laser treatments, electrolysis may be a better fit for your needs.
Electrolysis is suitable for all skin tones, hair types, and hair colors. Because each treatment plan is personalized, I can tailor the process to your goals, your hair growth pattern, and your unique needs.
Did You Know Laser Can Stimulate Hair Growth And Make Hair Growth Worse
Laser hair removal can be very effective on larger body areas such as the legs, arms, and back. On the face, however, some people may experience increased hair growth after treatment. This rare side effect is known as paradoxical hypertrichosis, which means hair becomes thicker, denser, or more noticeable after laser hair removal.
In some cases, laser can stimulate finer facial hairs to become coarser or more dense, which is one reason electrolysis may be a better option for facial hair removal. Unlike laser, electrolysis treats each follicle individually with a tiny current, reducing the risk of stimulating additional growth while working toward permanent hair removal.
Does Electrolysis Hurt
Most clients describe electrolysis as a small pinch, a brief heat sensation, or a light zap. The experience can vary depending on your personal pain tolerance and the area being treated.
Some areas, such as the upper lip or bikini line, may feel more sensitive than others. While some clients find treatments so manageable they fall asleep during a session, others prefer to use numbing cream for added comfort.
Struggling With Ingrown Hairs
Electrolysis can be an effective solution for recurring ingrown hairs. By treating the follicle directly, it helps stop the hair from growing back, which can reduce the likelihood of future ingrowns and may also help prevent scarring and other skin irritation caused by repeated ingrown hairs.
